Firstly here is what you need to get started.....

This is a cheapie cheap acrylic felt from the craft aisle at Tescos the quality is not the best but is fine for this project, it came in a multi-coloured pack with about 10 colours in it. I think it cost about £1.50 or so.

I drew a five pointed flower shape on the felt and cut it out, next I shaded it with a coloured pencil in the centre extending out into the centre of each petal.

Using a paint brush, paint around the raw edges with an acrylic paint - I used black but any colour that complements your felt will do - this is just to seal the edges. You could even use PVA or craft glue that dries clear.

Next I threaded my needle with the yellow thread making a knot at the back of the flower and passing it back and to the front a few times to anchor the thread, to commence beading start with your needle on the 'Right Side' of the flower, thread a white 'rice' bead (that's the long one) first and a small yellow seed bead next - then pass your needle back through the white rice bead helping the thread through the seed bead so it doesn't get tangled.

When you pass your needle back down through the felt close to where you originally came through - pull it just tight enough so that the beads stand up on end. Repeat this multiple times knotting the thread at the back each time to secure the beads. Keep going until you are happy with the centre of your flower.

Now thread your needle with double thread so now you have four strains of thread make a knot in the threads and trim excess close to the knot - start from front of the flower and hide the knot in between the beads. Make 1.5cm loops of thread and knot at the back of the flower. Repeat until you are satisfied with the quantity. Secure the last knot and then cut the loops (the knots secure the threads so that they don't pull through).

Lastly cut a small circle of felt about 1cm diameter. Put a blob of craft glue on the back of the flower (make sure to coat the thread knots too this will help secure them) and one on the felt circle place your hair pin (face down) with the closed end in the centre of the back of the flower and press the felt circle in place.
